Congress city and location

São Paulo is the most populous city in Brazil and the capital of the homonymous state of São Paulo. It is an alpha global city that never sleeps, exerting substantial international influence in commerce, finance, arts, and entertainment. São Paulo is the largest urban area by population outside Asia and the most populous Portuguese-speaking city in the world; the city proper has circa 12 million inhabitants, while the so-called “Greater São Paulo” reaches 20 million. The city’s name honours Paul the Apostle and people from the city are known as ‘paulistanos’. A typically urban multifaceted metropolis, avant-garde and innovative, with arts and cuisine, made up of the union of more than 70 nationalities and regional traditions. In addition to being one of the ten largest economic centres in the world, it is also the capital of culture in Latin America, with unparalleled offers of leisure, gastronomy, tourism, and entertainment. Like every major metropolis, São Paulo is rich in gastronomy (from street food to Michelin-starred restaurants), it has reasonable public transport (but a heavy traffic), and a pleasant mild climate over winter when the WCM takes place (~10 to 25°C, with typically overcast days and frequent polar air masses). To give you an idea of its magnitude, the city has more than 105 parks, 100 museums, 280 cinemas, 140 libraries, 180 theatres, 15,000 restaurants, 20,000 bars, about 40 cultural centres, numerous popular festivals, and free fairs.
